VULNERABILITY… The latest & greatest trend getting around: “Be Vulnerable & Be Authentic”.. Have you noticed?
But what does this even mean? And how can we do this to improve our lives to become our greatest potential?
TESSA ALEXA STANFORD graduated with an Honours Degree in Psychology in 2011 from the University of Queensland, Australia. Contrary to her ‘Plan’, she decided on against completing the post-graduate degree required to become a Registered Psychologist after becoming disillusioned with modern psychological approaches to mental health and overall wellbeing during her 8-year career in the Social Welfare sector.
DURING HER PSYCHOLOGY CAREER she specialised in Holistic Wellbeing Interventions, Trauma Assessments, and Staff Self-Care Support and Vicarious Trauma Training. She completed additional study (in Health Science, Nutritional Medicine, Emotional Regulation and the Neurobiology of Complex Trauma) and worked with various disadvantaged populations within fields of Child Protection, Asylum Seekers & Refugees, Early Mental Health Intervention, Domestic Violence and Alternative Education
TESSA FOLLOWED HER HEART and resigned from her career this year (with zero savings and zero plans!) to pursue her lifelong desire to create meaningful global change. She developed her own business in Emotion-Mindset Coaching & Events for Enlightened Entrepreneurs. She now applies her vast psychological and philosophical wisdom to enable other authentic game-changers to create the change they are here to create in the world by dissolving their self-doubt and fear of judgement, and increasing their capacity to step into their truest potential to live their dream life and serve the world.
TESSA IS ON A MISSION to transform the world from True-Self Suppression into Wild Authenticity. She is passionate about inspiring change to the global narrative of Emotion from weakness to strength. She teaches the Art & Science of Vulnerability, Emotional-Expression and Self-Worth, enabling others to create a life of freedom and fulfilment aligned with their core truth, deepest values and highest potential.
Tessa, what does Vulnerability mean to you?
“Vulnerability is my greatest measure of authenticity. I know I’m showing up as my best, most true self, when I am saying the things that are true for me, expressing my true feelings and not shrinking away from my true potential. Yet, these are often viewed as extremely taboo in our society and so they expose us to great potential emotional risk (ie rejection, humiliation or judgement from others). So whenever we choose to push the bounds of our emotional comfort zone, we are dancing with vulnerability and a world of uncertainty. Within this dance lies our freedom, our deep fulfilment, our most profound truth. Vulnerability can be terrifying because it represents soul expansion; our personal growth. In any moment it is the unbecoming of who you once were, and the becoming of who you truly are.
To become comfortable with the dance of vulnerability, we must first become comfortable with uncertainty and uncomfortable emotions. This of course is the most difficult part because we live in a society where the importance of emotion in our wellbeing is dangerously undervalued; and so we grow up believing that Emotional-expression is weakness not strength. However, once we learn how to integrate our head and heart, and become awakened to the concept that we are all emotional, spiritual beings, we then understand how to accept and express our True Self in any given moment. This transforms Vulnerability from something we desperately avoid, to a necessity to live our most grandest vision of our life and experience true happiness and deep connection with ourselves, others and the World.”
